The PLD Color Guard is an ensemble of 20–40 students who bring the band's musical story to life through movement, color, and artistry. While the band tells the story musically, the Color Guard tells it visually — captivating audiences with flag, rifle, and saber work performed with incredible precision and athleticism.
Color Guard members master the same marching and drill techniques as the rest of the band, while also developing expert equipment handling skills that set them apart as performers. Their hard work pays off — the PLD Color Guard is frequently recognized at competitions with Best Visual and Best Color Guard honors.
CLINICS/TRYOUTS
Your Color Guard journey begins with spring clinics and tryouts held each year. Prospective members will learn and demonstrate basic dance, flag, rifle, and/or saber skills — and don't worry if you're new to it all. We will teach you everything you need to know! All it takes is enthusiasm, dedication, and a willingness to work hard.

COLOR GUARD CAMP
All Color Guard members are required to attend Color Guard Camp, held the week before Full Band Camp. This focused camp is dedicated to developing dance fundamentals and equipment basics — building the foundation that members need to hit the ground running when the full band comes together. Attendance at Color Guard Camp is required to ensure your spot in the competition show.
REHEARSALS
Color Guard rehearsals follow the same general schedule as the Marching Band — held Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 4:00–6:30 PM, with no rehearsals on Wednesdays. Additional full-day rehearsals may be scheduled on Saturdays or school holidays.
Color Guard may also hold additional or extended rehearsals separate from the full band throughout the season. All rehearsal schedules are distributed at the start of the season and kept up to date on the CutTime calendar.
PERFORMANCES
The Color Guard performs alongside the Marching Band at all home varsity football games and at 4–6 competitions throughout the season at the local, state, regional, and national levels.
At competitions, the PLD Color Guard has a strong tradition of earning honors for Best Visual and Overall Effect.

The PLD Winter Guard is an indoor performance ensemble that takes the stage during the winter season. Unlike the fall Color Guard, which performs outdoors on a football field, Winter Guard shows are performed indoors in a gym — bringing a unique and intimate performance experience to audiences and competitors alike.
Winter Guard members spend countless hours perfecting their dance, flag, rifle, and saber skills, competing in the Tristate Marching Arts (TMA) Circuit at the highest level.
A Decorated History
